The Beauty of Truth in Art
Sam Kavenchy's work embodies a unique blend of personal truth through contemporary figurative abstraction that create beauty, free from external judgment and traditional expectations.
"When I was twelve years old, I was exposed to cubism and one of Picasso’s earlier works stuck with me. I always questioned how it was possible that he could capture with something broken or unreal all the beauty and emotions that I was experiencing at that moment. And that’s what I want to offer my audience: The freedom to explore their own imagination in my paintings. That’s why I do not neglect my developed style and technique. Quality, imagination and vision complement each other."

The Artist & his Journey
Sam Kavenchy embraces his artistic journey, creating works that reflect personal truth and contemporary abstraction.
An artist by any other name is a master of the visual, a conjurer of images that resonate with an intangible element derived from a highly personal place. As Sam readily acknowledges, he is, for the first time in his career, painting for himself rather than the invisible, judgmental viewer. Thus, he speaks of his work now as “the beauty of truth.” Stylistically, Sam’s works approach contemporary figurative abstraction.
While traditional artist bios present the standard credentials – academia, exhibitions, and the like– Sam’s is unusual. Though trained at Corcoran College of Art and Design, he prefers to speak of his artistic education in terms of his unusually eventful life.
Sam was the middle child in a family of fifteen and, as such, had a difficult time defining his individuality. Rather than evolving his childhood voice in the normal way, he traced onto tissue paper the art works of his brothers. Successfully passing one off as his own at school, he felt, ever so briefly, as though he had become an artist. When the teacher commended the work and asked him to show the class how he accomplished the task, Sam froze. The teacher slapped him. Sam believes his career began at that moment, tangled in resolve to prove his talent to the abuser.
Sam experienced a series of relocations from Italy to France, Montreal, Washington, DC and LA, CA, where he pursued a career in Fashion. Eventually, he made his way to the Greater Palm Springs Area and follows his desire to create pure Art and a career in Real Estate.
At this time of his life, Sam feels his greatest artistic accomplishment is that he is finally pushing through the barriers of restraint to present the person he is. This comes through in his canvases, where the darkness gives way to light, to hope.
His paintings are held in the collections of celebrities and socialites. To own a work by Sam Kavenchy is to understand that only beauty born of truth is valid.
Sam's Education at Corcoran College shaped his artistic vision and approach to creation.
